Wow Instead of Meow – Cat on the Road

As we all know, a cat doesn’t just have one life—and the same goes for flexible packaging paper. It can be recycled up to 25 times. To raise awareness of the benefits of paper packaging, Koehler Paper took a very special cat out for a walk in front of the Bundestag in Berlin.

It’s big, cute, and—unlike some of its fellow cats—even lets you pet it: the giant origami cat that roamed Berlin’s government district to kick off the “Pack’s mit Papier” campaign. Its mission: to raise awareness of the benefits of barrier paper as an alternative to plastic.

The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) aims to significantly reduce packaging waste through ambitious recycling targets—and is thus calling on companies to take action. In Germany, the new regulation was introduced to the Bundestag for its first reading on April 16, 2026, as the Packaging Implementation Act (VerpackDG). Koehler Paper took this as an opportunity to use the origami cat to highlight the advantages of paper as a recyclable alternative to plastic.

After her appearance in Berlin, the cat will continue her journey through Germany. From May 7 to 13, she’ll be at the interpack trade fair in Düsseldorf, after which she’ll go on tour and visit select food retail headquarters before her journey ends at the recycling plant. Naturally, with a rebirth. That’s just what cats do.
